Koç University Surface Science and Technology Center (KUYTAM) was established in 2010 with the support of Koç University and the Ministry of Development. It is the first research center in Türkiye specializing in surface science and technology. KUYTAM aims at studying surface interactions, optimizing surface functions and developing surface-based innovative products.

KUYTAM consists of seven thematic surface characterization laboratories built over 600 m2 of area. The infrastructure consists of more than 30 state-of-the-art analysis instruments such as scanning electron microscopes, atomic force microscopes, x-ray fluorescence spectrometer, x-ray diffractometer, x-ray photo-emission spectrometer, Raman microscope, ultra-fast laser spectrometer, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, among others. With this infrastructure, high precision measurements and analyses can be performed on surfaces with thicknesses ranging from a few atomic layers to beyond microns.

The state-of-the-art facilities of KUYTAM are available to academic and industrial research and development groups. Our full-time experts maintain the center equipment and provide user training, in addition to collaborating with academic and industrial partners focused on materials science and surface studies.

Koç University faculty members from the Colleges of Science, Engineering, Medicine, and Social Sciences conduct their research in collaboration with KUYTAM. Moreover, KUYTAM organizes regular workshops, and participates in both national and international exhibitions to introduce novel surface analysis techniques to both academic and industrial communities.
